Marine Heat Wave Increased Variance and Decreased Productivity at Bering Strait during 2015–2016

چکیده

Planktivorous auklets registered changes across two years of a marine heat wave (2015–2016). Colony attendance crested (Aethia cristatella) was reduced (35–50%) at Little Diomede I., AK, in the latter part June 2016 compared to 2015. The pattern similar for least (A. pusilla). An anomalous distribution and consumption were noted auklets. A plot δ15N/δ13C spanned three times range vs. Crested auklet RBC’s had lower δ13C values higher δ15N 2016. Least growing primaries showed same pattern. Advected production is important, but enrichment may have occurred later Julian Date sampling more strongly correlated with RBCs (r = 0.47, p < 0.001) than 2015 0.31, 0.01). baseline corticosterone (t0.05(2)27 2.56, 0.05) variances auklet’s citrus-like odorant less evident ceased earlier summer. Bill pigmentation incomplete 11% (n 82) are proxies ecosystem. Increased content imposed additive costs that decreased productivity some top predators.

Solitary wave generation dynamics at Luzon Strait

A high resolution modeling study is undertaken, with a 2.5-dimensional nonhydrostatic model, of the generation of internal waves induced by tidal motion over the ridges in Luzon Strait. The model is forced by the barotropic tidal components K1, M2, and O1. These tidal components, along with the initial density field, were extracted from data and models. As the barotropic tide moves over the Luz...

Meridional reorganizations of marine and terrestrial productivity during Heinrich events

[1] To study the response of the global carbon cycle to a weakening of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), a series of freshwater perturbation experiments is conducted both under preindustrial and glacial conditions using the earth system model of intermediate complexity LOVECLIM. A shutdown of the AMOC leads to substantial cooling of the North Atlantic, a weak warming of th...

Heat-related mortality during a 1999 heat wave in Chicago.

BACKGROUND During the summer of 1999, Chicago's second deadliest heat wave of the decade resulted in at least 80 deaths. The high mortality, exceeded only by a 1995 heat wave, provided the opportunity to investigate the risks associated with heat-related deaths and to examine the effectiveness of targeted heat-relieving interventions. METHODS We conducted a case-control study to determine ris...

Prevalence and Phylogeny of Coronaviruses in Wild Birds from the Bering Strait Area (Beringia)

Coronaviruses (CoVs) can cause mild to severe disease in humans and animals, their host range and environmental spread seem to have been largely underestimated, and they are currently being investigated for their potential medical relevance. Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) belongs to gamma-coronaviruses and causes a costly respiratory viral disease in chickens. The role of wild birds in the e...
